The experience

The SPU Experience embodies the human, artistic, and spiritual dimensions of learning. It combines culture, community, and emotion in a single educational journey, transforming the Mediterranean village of Belvedere Marittimo into a vibrant and engaging campus.

During the Summer Peace University , Belvedere Marittimo is transformed into a Global Peace Village , a microcosm of global citizenship where students, teachers and citizens live together daily in a widespread campus that embraces the entire historic village overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea.

Community life is a fundamental dimension of the educational project: peace is not only learned in the classroom, but is experienced in relationships, in daily cooperation, in mutual listening and respect for differences.
Unlike traditional academic models, participants do not reside in isolated university buildings. They live in village homes, share meals in the town squares, participate in civic initiatives and volunteer programs, establishing authentic connections with the host community.

This coexistence transforms training into an immersive and participatory experience, where knowledge becomes relationships, diversity becomes dialogue, and theory translates into concrete practices of intercultural coexistence.

Students engage in dialogue with citizens and collaborate with local institutions on sustainable development projects, cultural activities, and regional development.
Through these experiences, SPU strengthens the understanding that civil coexistence is the first and most authentic form of global peacebuilding.

Belvedere Marittimo thus becomes a living laboratory of civic education and territorial diplomacy , a replicable model in which institutions, citizens, and international guests cooperate to shape a community founded on the values of cooperation, inclusion, and shared responsibility.

In this context, the academic dimension merges with the ethical one, and education transforms into life experience.
Participants apply what they study in concrete ways: conflict mediation in everyday life, managing cultural diversity in shared spaces, building consensus in collective decisions, and balancing personal identity and the common good.
The Global Village of Peace is not a simulated educational setting, but a real community where the challenges of intercultural coexistence are addressed daily with the tools of diplomacy, dialogue, and mutual respect.
The Journey of the Peace Leader finds its fulfillment here: a path of integral growth—intellectual, civil, and spiritual—that unites theory and action, culture and community, local roots and global horizons.

An experience that trains people capable of interpreting the complexity of the contemporary world and acting with clarity, balance, and a sense of responsibility in the service of peace and humanity.
