Local Peace Project (LPP)

The legacy of Summer Peace University is manifested in the Local Peace Project (LPP) , the social change initiative that each graduate of the program (henceforth referred to as Alumnus ) is called upon to develop to translate the global insights gained into tangible impact at the local level.

More than a final requirement, the LPP is the bridge that transforms learning into active leadership and marks the formal transition from Alumnus to Senior Fellow , a permanent member of the SPU global network.

Within twelve months of completing the program, each alumnus develops an initiative that addresses a specific challenge in their context, applying their unique vision and skills to address local needs with a global perspective. The project embodies the synthesis of critical analysis, ethical leadership, and strategic action, representing the most authentic manifestation of the SPU community’s long-term commitment.

The structure of each LPP is based on principles of impact, sustainability and methodological rigor, as outlined in the following table.

Cardinal Principle

Operational Description

Clear Vision and Measurable Impact

Define a clear theory of change, expressed in a strategic and measurable objective. Examples: “Improve access to drinking water for 150 students by installing three certified filters at school X”; “Promote circular economy practices through one waste management protocol, adopted by five local organizations and associations.”

Feasibility and Strategic Collaboration

The initiative must be based on a realistic action plan and the use of accessible resources. Strategic collaboration with at least one locally rooted partner (e.g., a public institution, NGO, business, or informal community) is mandatory to ensure its sustainability.

Verifiability and Learning

Demonstrate the impact achieved through a set of qualitative and quantitative evidence (e.g., logs, usage data, testimonials, questionnaires, photographic documentation), promoting a continuous learning process

Ethics and Responsibility

Each project must strictly adhere to the principles of neutrality, do no harm, regulatory compliance, protection of vulnerable individuals, and privacy, always acting with the utmost responsibility towards the community.
